Religious Education

R.E is taught weekly at Kilmersdon VA Primary School across all year groups including EYFS. Coverage is through a mixture of units drawn from Somerset’s R.E syllabus (AMV) and ‘Understanding Christianity’ a Church of England Education Office Project.

Our aim is to help support pupils in developing their own thinking and their understanding of Christianity, as a contribution to their understanding of the world and their own experience within it. We ensure that, over each Key Stage as a whole, our scheme of work reflect the fact that the religious traditions and cultural heritage in Great Britain are in the main Christian, while taking account of the teachings and practices of the principal religions of Judaism, Islam and Hinduism. Throughout our programme of study, we also include consideration of non-religious points of view through the study of Humanism.

We aim to see pupils leave school with a coherent understanding of Christian belief and practice. Pupils explore the significant theological concepts within Christianity as part of developing their wider religious, theological and cultural literacy.
